Malcolm Young was an Australian rhythm guitarist, songwriter, and music producer. He was a co-founder of the hard rock band AC/DC. Their discography includes High Voltage (1975), Back in Black (1980), and The Razors Edge (1990). Malcolm Mitchell Young was born on January 6, 1953, in Glasgow, Scotland. His parents were William and Margaret. He had 7 siblings, including Angus, George, Margaret, Stephen, and Alex. He emigrated to Australia in 1963 at age 10.

CAREER
Young began playing the acoustic guitar at a young age. He performed in local bands such as The Velvet Underground. He drew inspiration from his George. AC/DC’s 7th album, Back in Black, was released in July 1980 to critical and commercial success. It featured singer Brian Johnson. The project was a tribute to singer/songwriter Bon Scott who died on February 19, 1980. ‘Back in Black’ sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. It topped charts in Australia, Canada, France, and the UK. It peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200. It included songs like “Hells Bells”, “Shoot to Thrill”, and “You Shook Me All Night Long”. AC/DC’s other albums include For Those About to Rock We Salute You (1981), The Razors Edge (1990), and Black Ice (2008). Their latest project, Rock or Bust, was released in November 2014 by Columbia Records. AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2003. Malcolm Young retired in 2014 due to health problems.

Malcolm Young died on November 18, 2017, at the age of 64. He had been battling dementia for several years. He is survived by his wife, O’Linda, and by his two children, Cara and Ross. Young was about 5ft 3in tall and he was of Scottish and Irish ancestry. His net worth was estimated at $100 million prior to his death.
