Jay-Z is an American rapper, music producer, entrepreneur and multiple Grammy Award winner. He was born Shawn Carter on December 4, 1969 in Brooklyn, New York. He attended high school with The Notorious B.I.G and Busta Rhymes before they became rappers. Carter started writing lyrics and freestyling at an early age. He gained some exposure when he appeared on Yo! MTV Raps in 1989. He created Roc-A-Fella Records in 1995 along with Damon Dash and Kareem Biggs. Carter released his debut album, Reasonable Doubts, in 1996 which peaked at number 23 on the Billboard 200. His sixth album, The Blueprint, which featured guest rapper Eminem was released in 2001. His more recent work include, Manga Cart Holy Grail (2013) for which he received several Grammy Award nominations. Jay-Z is a co-owner of the 40/40 club, co-creator of Rocawear, and part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets. He married Beyonce in 2008 and they had a daughter.
