Bonneville County Sheriff's Office says a man was recovered from the Snake River near downtown Idaho Falls late Sunday night after witnesses saw him in the water.

Dispatch received a call around 7:30 p.m. reporting a male was seen in the Snake River yelling for help near Memorial and D. St. but went under and did not resurface.

Idaho Falls Fire Swift Water Rescue, Idaho Falls Police and Bonneville County Sheriff's Office Dive Rescue Team responded and began search efforts. Fire personnel located an area with fresh footprints from the riverbank across an ice shelf to the water that did not return to the bank.

From witness information and investigation, deputies believe the man to be 31-year-old Dylan T. Rummler of Idaho Falls. At approximately 10:20 p.m., Sheriff's Office divers located the man, deceased from drowning, at the bottom of the river near where he was believed to have gone in and recovered his body.

The victim's identity was confirmed as Rummler at that time.

Deputies remind the public that conditions on the Snake River can be dangerous at any time, with cold water temperatures making the window of self-rescue short as hypothermia sets in. Always use caution around swift water and consider the potential unseen hazards of the area.
